The MAMA Hall of Fame
Inaugural Induction Event and Comedy Roast is Sunday, October 13
After several years of discussion, the Madison Area Music Association is finally getting their Hall of Fame instituted. There have been sixteen years of MAMA Awards and, to date, there are nine eligible inductees. An inductee is a band or artist that has won a single category for five years.
There are some businesses who have dominated their category as well, such as the High Noon Saloon and WORT. Businesses are not currently being considered under the same guidelines and the organization is exploring how to recognize these businesses. At the crux of that issue is the fact that inductees are removed from the category in which they are nominated.
The MAMAs have recognized that some artists are reluctant to participate in the MAMA Awards because they feel they can never overcome the momentum that well-established artists have. Establishing the Hall of Fame serves to both recognize the achievement of the inductee while opening that category up for others. Artists who are inducted in one category do remain eligible in other categories.
October 13th has been set as the date for the first ever induction event. That will take place at the High Noon at 7pm. The event is intended to be much less formal than the MAMA Awards. To help with that, local comedians have been hired to roast the inductees.
Four performers will be inducted: Jimmy Voegeli (keyboards – piano), the Jimmys (Blues Performer), Natty Nation (World performer) and the Gomers (Cover Band Performer). Gabby Parsons will also be inducted in the Local Music Radio Personality category. An Honorary Induction is also being extended to Cathy Dethmers of O’Cayz Corral and High Noon Saloon fame.
The event will feature three performances: the Jimmys, Natty Nation and the Gomers. Following the program there will be a jam session with members of all three groups.
Registration for the 2020 MAMA Awards will also open on October 13 and registrations can be done with a MAMA representative at the High Noon.
