Robert J joins the Jimmys onstage at the Knuckledown Dec. 23, 2016
The Jimmys, the Knuckledown help raise funds for MAMA Cares
The first snowfall of the year was what most would call “a doozy.” But talking to my 92-year old dad on the phone he reminded me of something: “Bah! That’s not a snowstorm! Twenty inches. Now you can call that a snowstorm!”
Such was the case on December 23rd when a legion of Jimmys fans braved day-long snow and treacherously slippery roads to descend on the Knuckledown Saloon for the Jimmys’ Xmas Party.
Owner Chris Kalmbach was generous to coordinate with the band and the Madison Area Music Association to make the show a fundraiser for MAMA Cares. Kalmbach sweetened the pot a lot further by kicking in $200 to the charity.
MAMA Cares is a newer project of MAMA, creating a fund to help musicians in times of medical crisis. It was started in mid-2015 by Robert J Conaway after his son suffered a traumatic and very serious infection. After a very successful fundraiser that April, Conaway decided he wanted to give back and seeded the fund as well as taking the lead in organizing the program. At this date MAMA Cares has already assisted eight families in the Madison area.
The band was smokin’ hot and still fresh off the recent release of the Live from Transylvania CD (read the review here).
Many thanks to Kalmbach, the Knuckledown and the Jimmys for making it a memorable evening for all and a chance for the MAMA organization to help fellow musicians in need.
