wintersong Unbelievable Weekend for Local Music

The regional and national touring bands dominate the clubs in the month of October but when the air gets cold things get hot for local music. this weekend has so much to offer it bears extra attention. Honest to God you just can’t go wrong this weekend. This is one of the strongest lineups in the clubs I’ve seen. Shame that you can’t be in more place than one at a time. Hopping strongly suggested. What’s below is just a sampling; the rest of the clubs are brimming over with local talent of all kinds.

Saturday

wort 38th party posterWORT’s 38th Birthday Party

High Noon Saloon 5:00

Another awesome lineup at this early show. The Jimmys with support from Earl Foss & The Brown Derby and Icarus Himself. Delicious eats from New Orleans Takeout and Carl’s Cakes. Give WORT the love they want and so badly deserve.

Transformer Lootbag / The Hussy / Control / Trin Tran

High Noon Saloon 9:30

After you’ve cavorted with WORT you can stick around for this fantastic lineup of local talent. A Transformer Lootbag gig is a rarity and they’ll hook you with their jagged rock. The Hussy is the underground champion of the city. Garage rock at its finest. Control is hot on their heels in the underground scene. Trin Tran is another unique take on what makes Madison music special.

German Art Students / Bing Bong / The August Teens

Crystal Corner Bar 9:30

Stupendous party lineup. The German Art Students celebrate fifteen years as a band. You will never have so much fun partying with the power pop/rock of the August Teens either. Maybe they’ll whip out an obscure, cool cover especially for this event. That’s right – not a show – an event. Another delicious slice of “Madison” music.

The Cardinal Anniversary Party

Cardinal Bar 7:00

The Cardinal Bar is an institution and a long-time supporter of local music. The club will celebrate 39 years and the building will celebrate 105 years. Incredible. There will be a champagne buffet and music by DJs Chamo, Colorao and Rumba.
