WORT-FM COMMUNITY RADIO LAUNCHES NEW INTERACTIVE WEBSITE

Recent News 24 Oct 2012

Below is a press release from WORT announcing the launch of its new website:

WORT 89.9FM,  Madison Wisconsin’s oldest and most-loved community-supported radio station will be going 3D  in October 2012 with the launch of it’s new website at www.wortfm.org.

To augment WORT’s venerated radio signal, wortfm.org  delivers real-time interactive content — allowing listeners to engage with WORT in a whole new dimension. Real-time playlists, locally-sourced news stories, archived show recordings and DJ blogs are just some of the features that will get a new home at wortfm.org.  WORT has streamed its radio signal online since February 2005, but the new website hosts an embedded player to make listening to WORT easy, efficient, and super mobile. The army of 90+ volunteer DJ’s who lend their time and expertise to WORT will all now be able to showcase their knowledge and passions with their own individual blog for each show.  Plus, wortfm.org will now be able deliver its world-class news reporting with improved searchability and visual media elements added.

WORT was an original “crowdsource” pioneer and by expanding its broadcast resources into the web experience; we expect our home-grown, handmade media to reach an even broader and more diverse audience. The new site, wortfm.org has been built entirely by volunteers, using the open-source platform of WordPress.  The WORT3D website collective formed in 2010 and consists of Miriam Frost, Lucas Osmond and Julie Rogers, working with WORT’s IT coordinator Tom Christie.

WORT-FM first went on-air on December 1st, 1975, and has continued to serve Madison and south-central Wisconsin with unique and diverse programming for the past 37 years.  Winner of numerous awards for its news and music programming, WORT continues to be supported almost entirely through the financial donations of listeners and the energy of over 300 volunteers.
